Social Media Age Restrictions Resource Hub

From 10 December 2025, social media accounts are restricted to Australians aged 16 and over.

We know this change brings up mixed feelings for many young people - confusion, frustration, relief, worry, or all of the above. However you’re feeling about it is valid. Big shifts like this can feel unsettling, especially when social media has played such a big role in how young people connect, express themselves and stay informed.

While time away from social media can bring benefits, it’s also true that for many young people, these platforms are a key way to stay in touch with friends, discover communities, and feel less alone. You might be wondering how you’ll keep those connections, where you’ll go for support, or how you’ll navigate this change in your everyday life.

Below, we’ve brought together a selection of resources to help young people, parents, educators and communities navigate this transition with care, confidence and compassion.

For young people

For parents and carers

At batyr, our focus has always been on prevention, early conversations and connection. We may not have all the answers yet - and we’re continuing to listen, learn and adapt - but we do know that young people need support, trusted spaces and practical tools as they adjust.

We’re continuing to support young people through preventative education and storytelling via our school and university programs and free Being Herd workshops, helping young people build understanding, empathy and help‑seeking skills.

We walk alongside young people and the adults who support them - especially during moments of uncertainty - guided by evidence-informed practice and ongoing collaboration with educators and sector partners.
