Day after day for months on end, Mark has pulled his cart across some of the most remote parts of Australia. When severe flooding forced him to stop in Tibooburra, what was meant to be a short delay turned into 29 days waiting for the region’s roads to reopen. With multiple routes cut off - including the Cut Line he needed to cross - he had no choice but to wait for conditions to clear before continuing his journey.
For some people, that might have been the moment to pause or reconsider. For Mark, it became a reset. When the weather finally cleared, he picked up right where he left off - crossing the Cut Line, making his way into Wanaaring, and continuing toward Bourke and Lightning Ridge with renewed energy and focus.
Along the way, Mark’s trek has been as much about connection as it has been endurance. From learning about Bourke’s rich history and crossing the iconic Darling River, to visiting bush pubs in Glengarry, exploring the opal fields of Lightning Ridge, and even trying his hand at yabbying in the Warrego River - each moment has added to an incredible journey across Australia that goes far beyond the kilometres.
This final chapter has brought a shift, too. After months of seemingly endless dirt roads, Mark has stepped back onto bitumen and begun the transition from isolation to the energy of the finish line.
With Byron Bay now in sight, the momentum behind him is building. Mark is now pushing toward a $120,000 fundraising goal to support our preventative mental health programs, workshops and initiatives - helping ensure more young people across Australia can access the support, education and conversations that change lives.
Mark will arrive in Byron Bay on Saturday 30 May, and you’re invited to be part of this incredible moment.
Location: Stone & Wood Brewery, Byron Bay
Time: From 11am (Mark arriving around 12pm)
Cost: FREE! Limited venue capacity, registration required.
This will mark the end of a 10-month journey across Australia - from Steep Point WA to Byron Bay NSW - completed entirely on foot.
Spots are limited, so supporters are encouraged to register early to secure their place at the official arrival event. You can also purchase raffle tickets as part of your registration, with all proceeds supporting batyr. Prizes include Byron Bay experiences, local vouchers and merchandise.

Mark set out on this journey alone, but he’s never been doing it by himself. Every step has been powered by a community that believes in a future where young people feel supported, connected and able to seek help early.
Now, as he takes on the final kilometres, there’s one last chance to be part of it - to show up, to support, and to celebrate what’s possible when one person decides to keep going.
Because this isn’t just the end of Mark’s trek. It’s a moment that belongs to everyone who helped make it happen, and the thousands of young people who’ll receive life-changing mental health education because of it.
