Why I Swim: Lee
We’re so excited for Splash the Stigma!
We caught up with the wonderful Lee, who is swimming in this year, to see what keeps him motivated.
Who are you and how are you involved in batyr?
I’m Lee, a Psychology Student and Surf Lifesaver from South Australia. In 2020 I was on the batyr Uni exec team for the University of South Australia and I’m currently developing my personal mental health story with the Being Herd program.
Why did you want to sign up to Splash the Stigma?
I signed up for splash the stigma because I’m super passionate about helping people through their mental health and educating people about the impact it has on our minds and bodies, as well as those around us!
How does swimming/physical exercise help you manage your mental health?
Swimming and surfing and being in the ocean really helps me maintain a positive frame of mind, it’s just such a mindful thing to be one in those moments with the ocean and the waves!
In 3 words, tell us about some of those ‘good vibe’ feelings you have after a good swim?
I think 3 words about how I feel after swimming is sore (a good sore!), refreshed and accomplished.
Why is it important for you to raise funds for youth mental health?
I believe it’s important to raise funds for youth mental health, as it means we can get more people involved in education and ensuring that more people are also talking about things that trouble them and seeking help from professionals, or even just chatting and helping each other out!
