Celebrating an OurHerd app milestone - reaching 5,000 downloads at the Western Sydney Careers Expo!

It’s been a big quarter for batyr’s OurHerd app! The batyr team has run over 15 activations this quarter across QLD, NSW, VIC, SA including events with our university partners. As our storytelling app continues to grow, we’re proud to see the impact it’s having on young people. This quarter alone 453 users sought information on how to seek help for their mental health through the app.

batyr attends NEXUS Global Summit

Last month we attended and presented at the NEXUS Global Summit in New York alongside 500 other delegates from over 45 countries.

Our Head of Major Gifts & Philanthropy, Lucinda Steggles moderated an elite panel of mental health experts to discuss the topic of ‘Championing Youth Mental Health & Innovation in Digital Wellbeing’, including Josh Wiseman, batyr’s Head of Data and Insights; Elyse Cohen, VP of Social Impact at Rare Beauty by Selena Gomez; and Larissa May, CEO of #Halfthestory.

We had interest in OurHerd from people across the world including: The United States, Brazil, South Africa and the United Kingdom, proving the appetite for a platform like OurHerd on a global scale.

batyr announces the appointment of Bryony Tucker as Chief Operating Officer 

Bryony has held the role of Director of Programs for the past 7 months and has worked closely with our State Managers and Program Delivery Teams. This has allowed Bryony to have a comprehensive understanding of how the teams currently operate and how to create greater efficiencies that will allow us to scale and reach more young people. 

As batyr continues to scale, and sets out to reach 3 million young people by 2030 it’s vital that we focus on operational efficiencies and sustainable organisational structures to allow us to achieve maximum impact.

Like and Subscribe - Flipping the Narrative on Social Media, Mental Health and Using Data for Change - Alex Farquhar, QLD State Manager

Did you know 16-24 years old spend an average of 7 hours 44 minutes every day on digital media? (Wielki, 2020). Alex discussed how most digital spaces are not meeting the needs of young people and are instead exacerbating potential harm. Over the last 3 years, batyr has developed OurHerd, an evidence-based storytelling app, that meets the needs of young people.

Tom shared batyr’s latest research that brings to light the intricacies of informal support models for young people. The report shares that young people are spending on average 3.5 hours per week supporting friends; what role can community play to support these young people?

batyr hosts first-ever Blue Tie Long Lunch!

In May we held our first ever Blue Tie Long Lunch at the Queensland Cricketers' Club. We had 120 people join us and help raise an incredible $40,265! 

Our inspiring lived experience storyteller Ollie shared his story and received heartwarming support from the audience who were captivated. The photo above shows a touching moment when his parents embraced him after hearing him share his mental health story for the first time!

The funds will help us reach an additional 1,343 young people across Australia with stories of hope and resilience.

batyr attends Global Mental Health Action Network Action Summit

Stephanie Vasiliou, batyr’s Head of Global Impact and co-chair of the network’s Child and Youth Working Group, attended the GMHAN Annual Meeting which brought together people worldwide working to achieve better mental health outcomes for all. 

 The Child and Youth Working Group announced that they will soon launch their collaborative resource, "Guiding Principles and Recommendations for Effective Lived Experience Youth Engagement Practice” which Stephanie has co-authored as a batyr representative alongside Unicef, Orygen and United for Global Mental Health on best practice principles for effective lived experience youth engagement.
