Young people call out Australian workplaces’ mental health initiatives as ‘superficial box-ticking’ and say senior leadership must check-in and lead by example and show ‘vulnerability and openness from the top down’.
batyr's released its latest research report today Trust, empathy and authenticity: Promoting mental health and wellbeing in the workplace
Key findings from the report:
- 95% of survey respondents strongly agreed that if their workplace prioritises mental health they are more likely to continue working for them.
- 69% of those surveyed said a company’s approach to mental health is a contributing factor in their decision to work for them.
- 72% said they can tell if a staff wellbeing initiative is ‘tokenistic’.

The report reveals young people are increasingly wanting their managers to demonstrate their own vulnerabilities; as a way to build trust, create genuine care for their staff, and make mental health initiatives in the workplace a success. The report's recommendations show a clear pathway leadership teams can take to make positive conversations about mental health in workplaces a standard."
