Over quarter two we reached a total of 12,445 young people, delivering 130 programs, 10 uni events and training 25 young people to share their stories!

During Term 2, our school programs team hit the road and toured regional Victoria! We had a blast visiting Cobram and Nathalia where we delivered our first ever Year 8 programs. The Programs team also road-tripped around regional NSW and delivered a whopping 24 programs! The tour included visits to Inverell, Bingara and Tamworth, reaching over 1,570 students.

Measuring the impact of our programs and gaining deeper insights
We are excited to be piloting the roll out of a new, comprehensive impact evaluation framework across our programs that was developed in partnership with the Centre for Social Impact. We look forward to gaining even deeper knowledge of our impact, and sharing this with all our supporters soon!

Piloting OurHerd in Plumpton High School!
We’re focusing on integrating OurHerd’s data and insights capacity with batyr’s entire suite of offerings across programs, workshops and content. We are piloting a program with Plumpton High during term 3 which aims to provide relevant and tailored support to the school by monitoring and analysing the way students use OurHerd. The possibilities of how we can use OurHerd as a tool to inform our program offerings and to feedback data to schools on what support their student’s may need is an exciting step forward.

The boys from The Zoop Network down in Melbourne have kicked off the 9 for 9 Challenge once again this year, with an amazing crew of supporters not just in Melbourne but across Australia! They’re braving the cold water for 9 minutes every day in August, for the 9 lives we lose to suicide in Australia each day. It’s not too late to join them!

We’re partnering with Griffith University to conduct research on our Being Herd workshops
Dr Tim Sharp has done it again! With his support, we are partnering with Griffith University to take on a PhD candidate to examine strategies that empower young people with lived experiences of mental ill-health, including our unique Being Herd program. Applications are now closed and we look forward to kicking off this important project soon.
We couldn’t do this incredible work without the support of our partners
This quarter we wanted to give a special mention to:
- James & Diana Ramsay Foundation for a 2-year funding commitment of $160,000, to support the delivery of school programs and community forums and events in South Australia.
- Third Link Investment Funds have been supporting batyr for over 10 years and have committed to a further three years of support!! Read Nic Brown’s interview with Third Link.
- Corporate Match 2.0 for partnering with us to build our matched funds pool this year! The first project is to build a $100k matched funds pool which batyr will use to amplify the donations received through our events and campaigns. Together, we’ll turn the $100K into $200k+ which will allow batyr to reach over 8000 young people through batyr@school programs across Australia.
- NSW Positive Rugby Foundation has successfully secured over $160,000 towards their initiative ‘Start Talkin’, Get Talkin’, Keep Talkin’, an extension of the Get Talkin’ Tour which we ran in regional rugby clubs across 2018-2020. The project will include a collaboration with batyr involving the development of coaching modules by batyr, as well as batyr program delivery in regional and metro clubs.yr, as well as program delivery in regional and metro clubs.
- Victorian Department of Health and Human Services for their commitment of $400,000 for program delivery in Victoria.
Thanks to the generosity of all our partners and the wider batyr community.
Your continued support is what makes everything possible and allows us to provide hope and connection to generations of young people, setting them up for a brighter future.
