batyr has revealed a reinvigorated brand identity after commissioning Designer Rice to undertake a brand refresh. The team was tasked with creating a cohesive and flexible design system to appeal to a number of audiences – from young people to corporate partners. From strategy to design the result was a bold, positive and youthful identity that included hand-drawn illustrations, vibrant colours and a custom typeface.
We are delighted to announce that the project won Silver at the Sydney Design Awards in the Better Future Equity and Inclusion Category.
“The batyr team are making a real impact on young people’s lives. Their positive, optimistic yet practical approach to breaking down mental health stigmas and stereotypes is inspiring. It was clear that the brand needed to capture this spirit and personality – in an engaging, flexible, approachable identity. A system that could flex from being playful yet restrained, to really bold, bright and colourful. We are proud of the small contribution we’ve made to their amazing cause, really appreciative of the opportunity, and thankful for the relationships that have developed.”
Brent Rice – Creative Director, Designer Rice
The brand refresh was informed by both qualitative and quantitative data through consultation with young people. The result is an identity that’s youthful, without being childlike and positive, without being naive.
“Designer Rice went above and beyond for our brand refresh. From brief through to creative direction and account management, every interaction was a joy and the team just ‘got it’. Their dedication, patience and flexibility unlocked potential we didn’t know we had.”
Helen Thorpe – Director of Marketing and Fundraising at batyr
This brand identity will be a launchpad for batyr’s youth-led approach to communication. We will be rolling these visual assets out across all of our communications including our website in 2023.
