Amy Benger’s outstanding contribution to batyr is recognised with Harriet Nixon Unsung Hero Award

Every year, we present the Harriet Nixon Award at the Blue Tie Ball to recognise an extraordinary achiever, who goes above and beyond to support young people and drive batyr’s mission far and wide, without wanting or really receiving much praise or limelight. This very special award is named in memory of Harriet Nixon, a former Civic2Surf president, passionate supporter and beloved member of the batyr community.

“I am truly honoured and humbled to receive this award. What I do with and for batyr never feels like ‘work’ or effort because of the amazing people and the incredible impact batyr has on our world. Being recognised for my small contribution to that incredible impact means so much, I can’t really find the words to describe it!”

Amy Benger

Ralph and Fiona Nixon, Harriet’s parents, have continued to passionately support Civic2Surf and batyr and carry on Harriet’s legacy and personal passion she felt in the 2 years she immersed herself in the event.

This year’s Harriet Nixon Award was presented at our Blue Tie Ball to Amy Benger, for her significant involvement with fundraising and mentoring. Amy sits on our Risk Committee and volunteers her time to help with internal development, policy reviews, individual coaching and team training sessions. She has also raised thousands of dollars through fundraising campaigns like ‘Shut Up, Boss!’.

Amy is an exceptional ambassador and mentor who always makes time for batyr and the individuals within it bringing with her significant expertise and considered insights which have helped us grow and develop so much over the last few years.

Thank you for everything you have done to support batyr, Amy!
