Trek4YouthMental Health

My name is Mark, and right now, I’m walking more than 6,000 kilometres across Australia, completely solo and without any vehicle support. From Steep Point, WA to Cape Byron in NSW, through the red centre and past Uluru, I’m pulling a 200kg cart and carrying everything I need to survive - all to shine a light on something too many young people are facing alone.

I’m doing this because youth mental health is in crisis. Rates of psychological distress amongst young people are rising, and far too many young people feel like they have no safe space to speak up or reach out. I’ve lived through my own experiences with mental ill-health, and I know how isolating it can be. No young person should ever feel that way.

That’s why this trek isn’t just an adventure - it’s a mission. I’m aiming to raise $110,000 to support batyr’s work in creating safe, stigma-free spaces for young people to open up and get help early.

But I can’t do it alone. I’m out here walking every day, but the impact only happens if people like you walk beside me.

Your donation - big or small - directly helps batyr reach more young people with programs and workshops that change lives. It brings us closer to a future where speaking up about mental health is normal, safe, and supported.

Thank you for believing in this journey, and thank you for helping make every step count.

Meet the man walking 6,000km across Australia for Youth Mental Health

Mark's Journey

Mark's extraordinary challenge of walking 6,000km completely self-supported, across the centre of the most inhospitable continent shines a light on the power of hope and resilience.

Carrying everything he needs on a cart that can weigh up to 200kg, including food, water, safety gear, first aid and his tent, Mark is facing 40 degree plus temperatures, relentless flies, long stretches between resupplies, and the extreme mental challenge of walking day after day in some of the most remote parts of Australia.

This isn’t Mark’s first adventure, but it is his most personal; drawing on his own lived experience of mental ill health, he’s turning a gruelling trek into a powerful demonstration of hope and resilience, sparking meaningful conversations along every step of the way, and raising much needed funds for youth mental health.

Give young people in Australia a brighter future.

Suicide remains the leading cause of death for young people aged 15 to 24 in Australia.

Behind each statistic are hundreds more young people - someone's friend, sibling, teammate - struggling with their mental health in silence.

Mental health stigma stops young people from speaking up and reaching out for support. Through storytelling, we inspire young people to take charge of their mental health early and often - because the right support at the right time can prevent a crisis.

At batyr, we lead the way in prevention through storytelling that transforms the mental health of young people and their communities. We’re helping young people feel empowered, supported, and hopeful for the future. You can help make that happen with a donation.

Every donation over $2 is tax deductible
