The difference you will make

You can help batyr achieve our vision of creating a world where all young people lead mentally healthy and fulfilling lives. Tragically, suicide remains the leading cause of death for young people in Australia and rates of psychological distress have increased in the last decade. Sadly, most young people dealing with mental health issues do not reach out for help, largely due to stigma, low rates of mental health literacy and access to support.

We are leaders in prevention. Through sharing lived experience stories and peer-to-peer education, we are keeping young people from reaching the point of crisis and changing their lives.

Every dollar you raise helps provide a generation of young people with the tools, knowledge and support systems to navigate challenging times, so we can keep them from ever reaching the point of crisis.

"In year 9 you guys came and presented and during that time I was going through a lot of anxiety. After the program, I went to the school psychologist and it changed my life"

FAQ

What will the accommodation be like?

You will be staying at the Schuss Alpine Club Lodge, which is located high in Thredbo Village and has grand views of the resort. Rooms are twin shared with en-suite. You will be provided with linen, pillow slips and a towel, so there is no need to pack these. The lodge has laundry facilities with a washer and dryer and a separate drying room.  There is a large modern communal kitchen and lounge area overlooking the ski slopes.

We are close to restaurants, the golf course and chairlift. Thredbo Village has a wonderful charm and is a great place to relax after a hard day’s walk. Your booking includes all meals (breakfast and dinners at the lodge and a pack lunch with snacks to nibble on during the day). There is a small supermarket, bakery and limited bottle shop in Thredbo, so it is advised that you bring your own alcoholic drinks that you require.

How challenging is the 3 Peaks?

You do not need to be a triathlete to succeed in trekking. What you do need is a deep reserve of strength and stamina rather than speed. Eventually you want to be training uphill with 5 kg depending on your size, strength and fitness goal. If you are super-strong at home, you will find your trek much easier.

In your training you want to be able to comfortably walk uphill with your pack doing 300m vertically per hour for 1 hour minimum. As your fitness and strength improves you should be able to do this for 6 hours. We do not suggest you need to do this every day, in fact you would be better training for 30 min – 1 hour a day, 3 times a week.

At least a month before your trip, it can be very helpful to go out on one or two weekends and do a long training walk for say 6-8 hours. Or consider training on consecutive days to get the feel (and endurance boost) of working a tired body.

We do not recommend intensifying your training immediately before the trip; it would be a huge disappointment to injure yourself at that late stage!

How can I go about fundraising?

Never fundraised before? Not sure where to start? No worries, we don’t expect you to do it alone. The batyr fundraising team will be here to support you every step of the way. Providing you with tips and tricks as well as resources to help your fundraising journey.

How much does it cost to participate?

The travel cost is $900 per person.

In addition you are pledging to raise $3,000 through fundraising.

If you wish to have your own room you can also pay the single supplement on top of the adventure costs which is $70.
