This month we are SO EXCITED to kick off a new program…Being Herd Pathways! The program has been in the works since March 2018 when we started on our pitch to be part of the NSW Department of Industry’s Youth Employment Innovation Challenge. With over 60% of unemployed young people experiencing mental-ill health we saw a huge opportunity to flip the narrative and turn what is commonly seen as a disadvantage in the workplace to an advantage.
We have taken our widely successful Being Herd program and adapted it to support young people not in education, employment or training. The free two days workshops will teach participants to confidently share their story, provide tools and advice to get job ready and pair them with a mentor who will help them set goals and work towards achieving them!
It’s been an exciting journey watching the idea evolve through the incubation process and we can’t wait to see the impact of the program over the next two years.
The team working on Being Herd Pathways have found the response to the program to be overwhelmingly positive, as service providers in hotspot areas recognise the need for more support for young people who have a lived experience of mental ill-health.
The program will be launching in Gosford and Mount Druitt at the end of the month and will be delivered in the Central Coast and Western Sydney, where there is a high rate of youth unemployment, over the next two years. There may be opportunity for us to visit other regions in NSW towards the end of 2019.
Huge shout out to the NSW Government who are funding this program as part of the Youth Employment Innovation Challenge, a $10 million NSW Government program that provides funding to innovative solutions and ideas that help young people find employment in NSW.
